Love, strength and (self)confidence for expectant parents: “Happiness is on the way” strengthens young mothers, their partners and babies – before, during and after birth

The new card set with 128 affirmations by Sonja Edenharder and Kristina Marita Rumpel promotes a positive approach to pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period. It takes up the FlowBirthing idea of understanding the ability to give birth as a gift and a natural female talent.

Birth as a celebration of life

"The birth experience is a reward from nature for us women, and it is time that we can experience it again in the 21st century. Birth was and is an initiation into female power, and now is the moment when we want to experience childbirth again as what it is: a celebration of femininity and life." Kristina Marita Rumpel is convinced of this, and that is why the author and co-initiator of "FlowBirthing" is committed to a new birth culture and is involved in this card set. Her book of the same name was published by Mankau Verlag in 2015 to reach out to women, provide them with ancient female wisdom and strengthen their natural power, which leads to trust and thus to safe, easy births.

The new card set, which she is releasing together with doula and family counselor Sonja Edenharder, is aimed at pregnant women and their partners who are preparing intensively for the birth of their child and want to establish a trusting bond with the unborn life during pregnancy.

Overcoming language and images of pain

Our everyday life, what we experience, depends greatly on the nature of our thoughts. Most of the time we are not free in what we think, but are pre-shaped. In a media world with all the information overload, every woman, whether she is aware of it or not, has images in her head when she thinks about giving birth. It is important to become aware of these images and replace them with powerful images that are conducive to giving birth. A multitude of myths and horror stories also usually haunt people's minds.

Even our language is full of frightening terms that suggest pain - especially in the vocabulary of obstetrics. A prime example: the word "contraction". The word already contains the preconception of pain. The Hebrew word on which the German translation is based is quite neutral and simply "work". Being in labor means nothing other than doing a woman's work. This work can be easy, strenuous, fulfilling, satisfying, etc. How I experience this work always depends on my inner attitude. "If I expect to be in agony, I will hardly go about it happily and relaxed. Instead, I will tense up in anticipation of the pain and then probably experience more pain during the birth simply because of this expectation," say the two birth experts.

The power of positive affirmations

Affirmations, on the other hand, are positive reinforcements and the basis of targeted mental training for birth preparation. The fear of birth, which is based on old negative beliefs, decreases because it is replaced by affirmations that give strength and confidence. Pain is reduced and the birth process is shortened by focusing on a relaxed birth in flow. Women feel better before, during and after birth because they can powerfully express their hopes and wishes with the help of affirmations. These help to become more aware of thoughts, patterns and cultural influences.

The total of 128 printed cards for pregnancy and birth, for the postpartum period and breastfeeding, and for relationships are also ideal for working with expectant mothers and families, and are therefore specifically aimed at professionals such as midwives, gynecologists, doulas, and maternity nurses. The cards can help to remove blockages and create a positive mood. In addition, the affirmations can direct thoughts, feelings, and actions toward a specific goal, such as a natural birth after a previous Caesarean section. Old values can be questioned during the discussion and replaced with new, positive ones. The card set's affirmations remind you of the essentials and thus increase anticipation of what is to come. Women and couples are gently guided into their power, emotionally relieved, and built up. Emerging doubts and uncertainties can be alleviated or even eliminated through the affirmations.

For a natural and (self-)confident pregnancy full of joy and trust! The positive affirmations in the card set give you strength for this special phase of life, which brings with it so many precious moments, but also uncertainties.

The booklet of the card set describes various ways of selecting the right affirmations and working with them. For example, you can draw a card and let the affirmation sink in or choose specific topics.

At first, the partner only sees the new life “from the outside”. By working with the cards, the parents-to-be can build a deep bond with their baby and experience a time filled with joy and anticipation and confidence.

With the FlowBirthing affirmations, Kristina Marita Rumpel, co-founder of the FlowBirthing network, and doula Sonja Edenharder want to help all expectant mothers to be able to design and experience pregnancy and birth according to their wishes.
