From the senses to meaning
Since the beginning of human history, symbols have represented the polarities of life. They touch our innermost being, the depth of which can be experienced in rituals. Christian symbols and rituals have their origin in God, the friend of life (Solomon, Wisdom 11:26), who cares about the well-being of people. They thus prove to be a practical aid to life, the healing effect of which is confirmed by current research.
Based on our everyday experiences, the authors search for meaningful, life-affirming symbols and rituals that appeal to us as people seeking meaning and as Christians. Their path leads through the senses to meaning: from everyday encounters to condensed human experiences in proverbs and sayings to Christian meaning.
The guide is aimed at believers and non-believers who are looking for depth in life and want to rediscover the inspiring field of symbols and rituals and their healing powers.
- Origin and meaning of Christian symbols and rituals
- Selected basic symbols of life in their biblical and liturgical context
- Rituals and symbols in everyday life – practical suggestions and meditative impulses
- Activating self-healing powers – tips and instructions
"I congratulate (...) on this original presentation, which sets out a broad anthropological horizon and - unlike the esotericism of recent decades - always carefully leads to the Christian core. Written in a reader-friendly manner and didactically stimulating, it invites you to think along and apply it. I hope the book will be widely distributed (...)."
Prof. Dr. Bernhard Grom, Emeritus Professor of Religious Education and Religious Psychology at the Munich School of Philosophy

From the book cover:
The healing powers of silence
When was the last time you consciously noticed silence? Try out what it's like to allow yourself some silence without thinking about what's next! The inner silence will enrich you.
Listening to the silence
Go outside and listen to nature. Do you hear birds? What are they? Do you notice other sounds? The buzzing of insects? The rustling of leaves in the wind? A rustling in the bushes? The soft patter of raindrops, the gentle trickle of snowflakes?
Listen to yourself
Sit comfortably in a quiet room; you can also rest your head and arms on a table. Relax your muscles and close your eyes. Just follow your breath. It comes and goes. Listen to what's inside you, feel it. Let yourself fall into this life of silence.
Putting down roots
Find a quiet, bright and pleasant place. Standing, let your arms hang loosely, look forward and breathe in and out freely. Slowly count to ten in your head; you can also quietly and quietly say something affirming to yourself, for example: "I am standing, I am completely still, I am firmly rooted in myself!" Then do the same thing again with your eyes closed. The entire exercise should be repeated three to four times.
