Dr. Peter Heilmeyer, MD
Dr. Peter Heilmeyer (born 1950) is a specialist in internal medicine as well as physical and rehabilitative medicine. He studied human medicine at the University of Freiburg, where he quickly became involved with hormonal metabolic processes and completed his doctorate on insulin and glucagon synthesis.
As the long-time head physician of the Überruh Rehabilitation Clinic (Isny im Allgäu), he has intensively examined the connection between lifestyle, nutrition, and chronic lifestyle diseases. Dr. Heilmeyer was one of the first doctors in Germany to successfully introduce and scientifically monitor a carbohydrate-reduced diet (LOGI method) in the rehabilitation of chronic diseases such as metabolic syndrome.
For many years, his particular interest has been the role of stress, nutrition, and exercise in rehabilitation medicine and prevention – not least with regard to Long COVID and the increasing burden in everyday working life. In lectures, coaching sessions, and seminars, he works with decision-makers on a sustainable health style from a hormonal perspective. His publications include the guidebooks "Essen! Nicht! Vergessen! – Demenzrisiko einfach wegessen – oder: Wie die Ernährung vor Alzheimer & Co. schützen kann" (Eat! Don't! Forget! – Simply eat away the risk of dementia – or: How nutrition can protect against Alzheimer's & Co.) (Riva), "Praxisbuch Lithium" (Practical Guide to Lithium) (Kopp), and "Altern – eine therapierbare Krankheit" (Aging – A Treatable Disease) (VAK).
