Get through school stress-free! Andreas Winter's new guide helps students and parents to master school time calmly and successfully

With his book "School Time Without Stress!" and the audio book of the same name with audio coaching for students, the qualified teacher and depth psychologist Andreas Winter encourages students to see through the "school system" and use it for their own lives. Those who recognize the meaning of learning develop a more relaxed relationship with teachers and required performance and increase their own motivation.

What needs to change?

The current crisis, with its inadequate concepts for homeschooling and digital learning, confirms once again that schools are not up to the real challenges of life. And this is not due to bad students, incompetent teachers or overwhelmed parents, but is a systemic error in our performance-oriented society. Because this puts pressure on teachers, head teachers, parents and ultimately on the students!

With pointed arguments and provocative ideas, Andreas Winter, a qualified teacher, bestselling author and director of one of Germany's best-known coaching institutes, addresses the structural causes of difficulties at school. "School time without stress!" first takes a critical look at what school is responsible for and what it is not responsible for. The psychological consultant then looks at social roles and relationships so that parents can safely accompany their children on the path to personal responsibility. As a third step, Winter presents his innovative approach "coaching instead of tutoring", which avoids cramming and instead relies on positive motivation in order to achieve a better relationship with the teachers and the learning material.

Understanding the school system

According to brain researcher Prof. Dr. Gerald Hüther, the majority of the population is of the opinion that school is there to teach children and young people the knowledge required by the Ministry of Education, to teach them, to discipline them if necessary, to classify them as high-performing and low-performing students and to evaluate their performance by awarding grades. However, the urgently needed, far-reaching changes require ideas on how these outdated thought patterns and organizational structures can be questioned and replaced with new approaches. Andreas Winter, says Hüther, offers such an idea with his new book: "He shows those involved a way to make the best of school as it is, and then perhaps to bring about an awareness of change 'from within'."

Winter, a successful self-help author and consultant for three decades, who says he never did his homework as a student and at times had the worst grades the school system could provide, summarises drastically what all critics of the so-called "education republic" agree on: School is "a socially institutionalised humiliation institution, created to break children's will and kill their creativity and intelligence". Although he does not want to change the school system with his book, his long-term and sustainable goal is to enable children to lead happy and independent lives as quickly as possible.

Protecting children from school

Some parents believe that discipline and ambition are necessary for their children to become something. Others, however, say that it is the school system itself that causes this stress about grades. Andreas Winter therefore recommends: "Take the pressure off and don't make yourself the school system's deputy sheriff." The most successful and satisfied people are not those with the most perfect grades, but rather those who are flexible, tolerant of frustration and self-confident in realizing their own visions in a harmonious environment.

Parents who are afraid of failure project themselves onto their children and do everything in their power to protect them from their own fears. As a result, children lose the need and the ability to develop social skills, frustration tolerance, empathy or even problem-solving skills. They are used to their parents taking care of everything and, in terms of personality maturity, remain stuck in childhood.

To prevent this, parents should stay out of school matters as much as possible and instead provide a safe and loving home. It is the job of the teachers to structure the lessons in such a way that every student is given the opportunity to receive an education. The duty of the students is not to sabotage this educational opportunity for others and to take responsibility for their own actions.
