Expanded new edition of “Natural Antidepressants”: The proven compact guide by Dr. Eberhard J. Wormer is published with expanded scope and new alternatives
The first edition of the popular and unique compact guide " Natural Antidepressants " by Dr. Eberhard J. Wormer is now sold out. The new edition, now 160 pages long, uses effective means and measures to show gentle ways out of the low moods that are affecting more and more people.
Drastic increase in mental illnesses due to pandemic
Current studies confirm that the incidence of severe depression and anxiety disorders has increased by more than 25 percent worldwide during the coronavirus pandemic. Younger people and women in particular are increasingly suffering from the restrictions on public life. The growing uncertainty of the global political situation, but also of personal living conditions, is putting pressure on the psyche and appears to be encouraging the spread of mental illnesses.
However, it is easy to overlook the fact that depressive states are often the expression of a disturbance in the physical and mental balance or undetected deficiencies. In order to balance out the mood swings caused by these, it is not always necessary to take heavy psychotropic drugs - especially since these often have serious side effects. In his compact guide, the medical journalist and health expert Dr. Eberhard J. Wormer presents effective alternatives to chemical antidepressants and explains natural ways out of the "dark valley of depression". The revised and updated new edition now offers 160 pages of gentle means and measures for restoring a balanced mind.
Emotional balance out of control
From elated to depressed - everyone has probably experienced these phases at least once in their life. Mood swings and emotional rollercoasters are normal adaptive reactions to different stresses. It becomes problematic when extreme moods such as depression or mania occur more frequently or become permanent. If they last for a long time and are severe, both conditions can even be life-threatening.
Health is basically a question of balance - this applies to the functions of our organs as well as to brain functions and the psyche. Any disruption to a control circuit that affects body functions, any physical or psychological stress - such as illnesses, accidents, operations, personal losses, long-term stress, nutrient and vitamin deficiencies, strong hormone fluctuations or thyroid and sugar metabolism disorders - can affect the balance of moods.
Depression is by far the most common form of uncontrollable balance - and the cause of this mood disorder is by no means only to be found in the head. Nevertheless, in Dr. Wormer's experience, it is often ignored that there are more physical than psychological causes of depression, which can be easily - and often very successfully - treated, for example by compensating for vitamin and nutrient deficiencies, correcting hormonal disorders, healthy eating and physical exercise, and herbal and body-derived antidepressant agents.
Natural alternatives to psychotropic drugs
Wormer defines "natural" antidepressants as all means and methods that have nothing to do with chemical antidepressants. These include hormones, vitamins, minerals, endogenous substances, medicinal herbs, medicinal mushrooms, cannabidiol, sleep cures, relaxation training, psychotherapy, fitness training and creative activities. "There is a surprisingly wide range of options that can be used individually or in combination very successfully," says the health expert. All of these measures often have a holistic effect and restore the lost balance of the body's regulatory systems.
The most effective natural antidepressants currently can be found in our food and in our own bodies. Although there is no diet that can eliminate depression, there is evidence that the quality of the diet and the mood of the person correspond with each other. A high-quality diet that has a positive effect on the balance of the intestinal flora is comparatively simple, less expensive and, above all, free of side effects compared to other antidepressant measures. Stress reduction measures and psychotherapy have also proven to be very effective in coping with depressive phases.
"Only when these remedies have been exhausted should you consider chemical antidepressants - which can be effective, but also have serious disadvantages," recommends Dr. Wormer. Psychotropic drugs should therefore only ever be the last resort in cases of serious, long-term, genuine depression.
