The rediscovery of sight

Wolfgang Hätscher-Rosenbauer’sLittle Eye School ” trains your personal vision

The holistic course program and the compact guide of the same name offer opportunities to counteract one-sided strain on the eyes and to do justice to the wholeness, the nature of human vision.

Wonders of nature
More and more information is available worldwide in ever shorter periods of time. Since this is mainly conveyed through visual media, the eyes have become the most used and often one-sidedly strained sensory organs. According to the latest statistics, around 90 percent of all young people in big cities are short-sighted, 60 to 70 percent of all adults worldwide are dependent on visual aids and eye diseases are on the rise. Experienced vision trainer Wolfgang Hätscher-Rosenbauer raises the question of whether "our eyes have to pay this price for the high and one-sided strain when looking at smartphones, tablets, laptops and screens of all kinds."
With his compact guide “Little Eye School”, he wants to make readers aware of the eyes as “miracles of nature” and make them understand what they need for an optimal interaction of all functions and qualities involved in the visual process: daily attention, loving care, effective relaxation, conscious support for the variety of their tasks through easy-to-learn and effortless-to-practice exercises that are easy to integrate into everyday life.

Holistic health promotion program
The Eye School is a holistic health promotion program for the sense of sight, based on over 30 years of experience with eye training and scientific research (as part of the BMFT's "Work and Vision" research project). It is based on four principles:
Firstly, the eye school encourages an optimal connection between the eyes and the whole body. Muscle groups and organs that are connected to the eyes are relaxed and harmonized in the exercise sequences, and the metabolism to the eyes and in the eyes is stimulated through suitable exercises. Secondly, according to the American ophthalmologist and pioneer of eye training Dr. William Bates, only relaxed eyes with completely relaxed inner and outer eye muscles can see well. Thirdly, the human brain, as the actual seat of the visual process, constantly switches between two ways of seeing, which the two Nobel Prize winners David Hubel and Torsten Wiesel called "what mode" (what am I seeing?) and "where mode" (where am I in space?). Only when both ways of seeing are active alternately or simultaneously are the resources of the sense of sight fully utilized in conjunction with all the other senses, thus avoiding one-sided vision with the corresponding negative impairments to the ability to see. Fourthly, the biological vision of the retinal cells is regenerated and increased through dark breaks (so-called “optical fasting”) and exercises for optimal light and color sensitivity – in combination with healthy nutrients through a balanced diet.

Everyday eye training
In addition to the course program (e.g. for company and external health promotion and for adult education courses), the eye school is also designed as individual training for young people and adults of all ages. It is carried out by trained eye school course instructors. For those who cannot attend a course or would prefer to do the eye school on their own, the compact guide presents the concept in an abbreviated, everyday form. The eye school consists of eight modules. The modular structure increases the effectiveness of the program, as each subsequent module builds on the previous one. The entire course optimizes the individual basic functions and qualities of the sense of sight, regardless of whether someone is ametropia or normal-sighted.
The approach of the eye school is to teach a conscious and mindful approach to the eyes and the sense of sight in everyday life. Being conscious of your own eyes and the sense of sight means knowing how the eyes are connected to the whole body and experiencing how the body and eyes work together optimally. It also means being aware of the dependence of the visual process on optimal breathing (for the oxygen supply to all cells in the body, including the eyes and brain) and optimal nutrition and blood circulation to the eyes and the visual brain. Anyone who is mindful of their eyes and their own ability to see - no matter how perfect or limited it may be - will realize that we do not always see the same, but rather that our vision depends on our respective physical, mental and emotional state.
