Mankau Verlag Celebrates its 20th Anniversary this Year
Since its founding in April 2004, the publishing house has stood for high-quality non-fiction literature in the fields of health, self-help, and personal development. Today, it is an integral part of the German publishing landscape.
Over 130 Authors
"It has been an exciting journey with many ups and downs, but above all with countless valued authors and readers who have accompanied us along the way. I am grateful for all the support and trust we have received," says Raphael Mankau, founder and managing director of the Upper Bavarian publishing house.
In recent years, Mankau Verlag has made a name for itself with its over 130 authors and its wide range of topics. The publications – currently around 250 titles are available – range from Ayurveda and obstetrics to herbal medicine, depth psychology, and Traditional Chinese Medicine. The books, audio guides, and card sets offer sound knowledge and practical tips for a healthy and fulfilling life.
Five years ago, we encouraged our readers in a prize competition to send us their ideas for visual interpretations of our publishing slogan; the six winning designs for the “Books that broaden horizons” have now been redrawn by Heike Brückner from Grafikstudio Art und Weise to mark our 20th publishing anniversary.

Bestsellers and Self-Help
Bestsellers include titles such as "HypnoBirthing" by Marie F. Mongan, "The 12 Salts of Life" by Angelika Gräfin Wolffskeel von Reichenberg, "Losing Weight is Easier than Gaining Weight" by Andreas Winter, "Healing with Symbols" by Petra Neumayer and Roswitha Stark, or "Artemisia annua – Herb of the Gods" by Barbara Simonsohn. "In our publications for interested laypeople, self-help is paramount," explains Mankau.
New Location and Modern Online Presence
For its 20th anniversary, Mankau Verlag has moved from its founding location Murnau am Staffelsee to Unterammergau, 20 kilometers away, and is now located in the heart of the idyllic Ammergau Alps Nature Park. In addition, its online presence has been completely revamped and has been available in a modern design since September at www.mankau-verlag.de.

Top Ten Supplier in the Network
In addition to well-crafted books and a large offering of digital media, authentic authors and extensive networking are particularly important. Mankau Verlag now works with and within a large network of professional partners in program planning, editing/proofreading, graphics/layout, printing, marketing/public relations, and sales/distribution.
"We are happy to have been a member of the Aurora Sales Cooperation since 2008," says Raphael Mankau. This unique success model currently includes 14 owner-managed book publishers. The network is among the top ten suppliers in its product categories throughout the German-speaking world.
Looking to the Future
Despite the challenges of the crisis years 2022 and 2023, publisher Mankau looks forward to the upcoming period: "Entrepreneurial risk has increased, margins have become smaller. Many publishers are giving up. But our heart still beats for the printed book – and we still have many, many exciting projects planned."
