Interview with the authors of "FlowBirthing. The Luminous Path to Motherhood"
"Our book aims to support women in reconnecting with themselves, perceiving their inner movements, and not suppressing fears, but lovingly exploring them. We invite them to look beyond fear: What message does it carry? Which belief or old feeling wants to be seen and transformed?" FlowBirthing co-initiator Kristina Marita Rumpel and doula Marie-Luise Schiegl, the two authors of the paperback "FlowBirthing. The Luminous Path to Motherhood," want to offer all expectant mothers practical tools for self-reflection, building trust, and rediscovering their inner strength through meditation instructions, journaling prompts, and their Louise L. Hay-inspired tables on physical and emotional topics.
Marie-Luise Schiegl is a doula and mentor for mental birth preparation, while Kristina Marita Rumpel, originally a business economist, now works as a mentor for strengthening female power in all areas of life. How did you two come together for this book?
Kristina Marita Rumpel: Marie-Luise came to me as a client; she was looking for her true calling. She couldn't yet put her special birth experience into words. It was only in conversation that she realized what a grace she had experienced with the luminous birth of her third child. She had a true FlowBirthing birth, as I had already described it as a vision in 2015. It quickly became clear what a gift it was that we were brought together and that we now had the task of bringing a different way of giving birth into the world.
As a central message, "FlowBirthing. The Luminous Path to Motherhood" emphasizes that birth can be experienced in joy, love, and trust. How do you support expectant mothers on the path to this security and confidence?
Marie-Luise Schiegl: I support women in reconnecting with their own inner strength, wisdom, and truth. My work is about strengthening trust in one's own intuition and consciously feeling the connection to one's own soul – and thus also to the baby's soul. Because from this deep inner connection arises a feeling of security, support, and confidence – the foundation upon which birth in joy, love, and trust can happen.
Together, you have given life to four children yourselves. What personal experiences and motivations have influenced the concept of your book?
Kristina Marita Rumpel: When my son was born, I was firmly rooted in the achievement-oriented society – adapted to the male world and far from my feminine power. I chose my attending midwife so that she wouldn't ask me personal questions, because I was a single mother from the beginning and didn't want my issues to be touched. But during birth, the innermost comes to the surface – it ended in a dramatic emergency C-section that my son almost didn't survive. I probably would never have dealt with the topic of pregnancy again if I hadn't been diagnosed with cervical cancer in 2012. This diagnosis shook me deeply, because although I had always advocated for women's rights, I barely knew what femininity and the uterus meant to me. In processing my illness, I began to search for answers – and recognized in pregnancy and birth the key to feminine power. Thus, FlowBirthing was born as a declaration of love for life and for the dignity of birthing. My wish is that all women can experience luminous births and that mother and child find a fulfilling path into life in this way.
Maria-Luise Schiegl: I have incorporated all my personal experiences from my pregnancies, births, and postpartum periods with my three children into the book – both the luminous and the challenging ones. Each child brought its own unique energy, its individual themes and lessons, which allowed me to grow profoundly as a woman and mother. I speak of my subtle perception of my children's souls, and I also openly share the difficult moments: the exhaustion, the draining nature, and the deep inner transformation that each birth brought. I want to encourage women to trust themselves and their inner perception – the subtle feelings, the stirrings of their bodies, and the quiet messages of their hearts. Because in this connection lies the power to experience birth and motherhood in love, trust, and surrender – and to recognize oneself as a creative, wise being.

Your book was inspired by Louise L. Hay's holistic approach. Which aspects of her work guided you, and what are the differences? And how does "FlowBirthing. The Luminous Path to Motherhood" distinguish itself from "classic" birth guides?
Kristina Marita Rumpel: FlowBirthing is not a method or a tool. It is a holistic perspective that understands mother and child as a unit and birth as a co-creative dance with the power of creation. What fascinates me about Louise L. Hay's work is the idea that the body does not want us to suffer from illnesses, but rather sends messages through symptoms that help us get back on the path to healing. Since two souls reside in one body during pregnancy, it was natural to assume that the physical symptoms have a more intense effect on development if we include the soul level and visualize the spiritual impulses behind the symptoms. We describe connections that are not made in conventional medicine, but which are ideally suited to free the expectant mother from helplessness and fear and to strengthen her self-efficacy. They are not intended to replace a doctor's visit, but they deepen the inwardly feminine view of the processes and thus strengthen the expectant mother from within. Because the most important thing in pregnancy and childbirth is to always be of good hope.
According to you, the journey into motherhood is not just a physical process, but a spiritual and mental experience that can touch deep fears, but also the greatest trust. How can your book help overcome fears and experience a joyful, self-determined pregnancy and birth?
Marie-Luise Schiegl: Fear is often an expression of separation – from ourselves, our body, or our trust in life. Our book aims to support women in reconnecting with themselves, perceiving their inner movements, and not suppressing fears, but lovingly exploring them. We invite them to look beyond fear: What message does it carry? Which belief or old feeling wants to be seen and transformed? With the included meditation instructions, journaling prompts, and the tables on physical and emotional topics inspired by Louise L. Hay, we give women practical tools to reflect on themselves, build trust, and rediscover their inner strength. Thus, pregnancy and birth become a journey of conscious self-encounter, carried by love, confidence, and surrender.
![]() More than a classic guide: The authors see their book as a valuable companion that women can consult in all phases of motherhood to find targeted answers to emotional and spiritual challenges. The meditation instructions, journaling impulses, and thematic tables – inspired by Louise L. Hay – are intended to help bring thinking, feeling, and acting into harmony, beyond all doubt.

Your book aims to guide women through becoming and being a mother and offer targeted answers to emotional and spiritual challenges in every phase. Which practical impulses and exercises from your book have proven particularly effective for this?
Marie-Luise Schiegl: For me personally, it is above all the meditations that have proven to be powerful companions. Through them, I was able to enter into a deep connection with myself – and ultimately also with the soul of my baby. This experience touched me deeply and was the key to my own luminous birth experience. Meditation opens a space where we can find calm, accept fears and doubts, and at the same time activate trust, love, and confidence within us. That is exactly what we women need so much during the time of becoming a mother – a conscious reconnection to our inner wisdom and to the certainty that everything is already inherent within us.
Behind the term "FlowBirthing," a network has been advocating for a new birth culture for about ten years now. What should this look like, and what positive power could emanate from it?
Kristina Marita Rumpel: Female power grows in the circle of women. FlowBirthing aims to bundle all the healing approaches that support women in emerging strengthened from the birth experience and make them accessible to all expectant mothers. After all, there isn't one single path to a joyful birth, but only the one that is right for each mother and child. Under the umbrella of FlowBirthing, therefore, all offerings that promote conscious pregnancy and birth in reliance on female power have their place. In the FlowBirthing portal, we can see how many women are already committed to exactly that. We are leading the way together for a new birth culture, which is in truth an ancient one. Luminous births are the guarantee for peace on Earth. And the children of the new age want to be born in love, trust, and oneness.
