Training with the Thera-Band
Training with the Thera-Band
Beginners and professionals of all ages benefit from daily exercises with the elastic latex band
Nora Reim 's compact guide presents simple exercises for everyday life as well as challenging training programs. This gives working people and athletes, as well as seniors, valuable tips on how to maintain their mobility.
The smallest gym in the world
Former Davis Cup winner Marc-Kevin Goellner recommends the Thera-Band as "required reading for every tennis player, regardless of age and skill level". He used it daily to warm up during his long professional career, but also off the tennis court. In his foreword to Nora Reim's compact guide, he also praises the precise instructions in words and pictures, which provide numerous ideas for exercises with the handy elastic band.
But it's not just professionals who benefit from the Thera-Band. Whether young or old, whether a beginner or an athlete - in many cases there is a lack of mobility. All you need for effective training is your body and head and ideally the colored Lastex bands. "They fit in any handbag and can be taken anywhere. Once unpacked, the colorful bands are very easy to wrap around your hands or fix with your feet for training," writes the trained sports journalist.
From beginner to professional
Anyone who does not strengthen their body regularly risks losing muscle mass . Muscle loss affects people as young as 30 - and the trend is increasing! From easy-to-follow exercises for beginners to more challenging versions for advanced users and workouts for professionals, Nora Reim's third compact guide offers numerous instructions that have been illustrated with the help of the young tennis player Jasmin Siegler, the fitness trainer Christian Weich and the sports photographers Ralf Graner and Fiona Noever.
Office workers in particular find excellent exercises for in-between times, for example to open up sunken chest muscles after sitting for a long time. For a stable torso, i.e. the middle of the body, we recommend leaning sideways with the Thera-Band. And partner exercises with the latex band are best for the so-called smartphone neck - the one-sided head position at the expense of the cervical spine, comparable to a turtle. If you don't have a partner, you can simply wrap the Thera-Band around a table leg, a door handle, a car mirror or a bedpost.
Fall prevention for seniors
The greatest danger facing older people is falling. They cannot catch themselves as quickly as younger people and therefore often injure their arms and legs. Uncontrolled falling is one of the most common reasons why seniors end up in nursing homes and, in the worst case, have to be cared for by staff.
In order to avoid dangerous falls in everyday life, so-called real-life training is recommended. This involves consciously practicing everyday movements for "emergency situations", such as getting out of bed in the morning. Another real-life exercise is getting dressed. "How often do you have problems pulling a sweater or a T-shirt over your head? With strong arms, getting dressed and undressed will be less of an effort in the future," says Reim, who dedicated the book to her grandmother. The 88-year-old lady not only supported the author with her tireless strength, but also inspired the chapter "Fall prevention for seniors".
