FlowBirthing Network: Vision of a new birth culture

For its second birthday, the internet portal for conscious pregnancy and birth presents itself in a new guise

Especially in times when the methods of modern, mechanized and impersonal "midwifery" are increasingly being criticized, FlowBirthing shows the way to a gentle, natural and self-determined birth: With almost 400 multipliers from the fields of pregnancy and birth, the Internet platform initiated by Kristina M. Rumpel and Raphael Mankau networks a wide range of information, courses and exchange opportunities relating to a new birth culture.

Return to natural birth – in trust and serenity
For decades, midwives and obstetricians have argued about the best way to bring children into the world. While the former see giving birth as a natural process in which the expectant mother needs to be accompanied and supported, the latter are primarily concerned with identifying and avoiding complications at an early stage.
According to a recent article in the Süddeutsche Zeitung on March 25, 2017, almost one in three women in Germany now gives birth by cesarean section - with potentially fatal consequences for the next pregnancy and the children. In Scandinavia, where pregnancy and birth are entirely in the hands of midwives, the cesarean section rate is only 17 percent. Nevertheless, births there are just as safe. Experts are therefore calling for a return to natural birth and more calm in obstetric care.
For two years now, “FlowBirthing” has been successfully promoting a new birth culture. The relaunch of the online portal www.flowbirthing.de, which was awarded the Health Media Award in 2015, is putting an even greater focus on the exchange and information about pregnancy and birth in the new awareness.

Birth as an empowering, primal feminine experience
In view of the hectic daily routine in hospitals and the medically dominated birth process, more and more pregnant women and expectant parents feel left alone with their worries and long for a "normal" and "natural" birth experience. Although the empirical knowledge of physiological birth has also become established in Germany through midwifery science, the professional situation of midwives and the care situation in obstetrics are still dramatic. "FlowBirthing" therefore wants to make birth a strengthening, primal feminine experience for women.
Two years ago, a platform was launched for pregnant women and everyone who supports them on this journey to find the right support for them during pregnancy and birth in their immediate environment. Around 400 network partners in Germany, Austria and Switzerland are using courses, seminars and lectures to help raise awareness of the fact that birth is not just a physical process, but also involves the mind, soul and emotions of the woman giving birth.
The key elements are trust in the female body and consciously dealing with fears in order to accompany women on their individual birth journey beyond trench warfare and systemic constraints and to impart knowledge to women that is truly beneficial. "FlowBirthing" is not a new birth method or an esoteric niche, but rather helps you to emerge from the birth experience stronger.

Great recognition and positive feedback
"It is a connection to forgotten times in which women experienced birth as powerful and as a boost to their self-esteem. A sunken treasure that modern women need to rediscover," says author and co-initiator Kristina M. Rumpel, describing the vision of "FlowBirthing". Through her diverse projects, the social scientist and mother of one son has now become a real expert in the new birth culture. She is involved in a parents' initiative that is committed to redesigning obstetrics in Germany, teaches as a lecturer at the Fulda University of Applied Sciences in the field of midwifery science and is invited to speak at events such as "Sex, Spirit & Birth" or the Alternative Pregnancy Congress 2017.
In particular, the positive feedback from readers, for whom "FlowBirthing" is "the most moving and outstanding thing in relation to pregnancy, birth, being and becoming human in general and being a woman in particular" and "really helps with overcoming fears of giving birth", shows Kristina M. Rumpel that her commitment is important and right. With the new and modern design of the online portal www.flowbirthing.de, which focuses on content on topics such as the desire to have children, conscious pregnancy, natural birth, primal female power and new birth culture, as well as a training package for people in obstetrics, the network is prepared for the future.
