FlowBirthing network celebrates first birthday

On International Midwives Day on May 5, the online platform for new birth culture looks back on a successful year.

Together with Mankau Verlag, the author and birth expert Kristina Marita Rumpel initiated the interactive FlowBirthing portal to support expectant mothers and fathers on their way to a self-confident, natural and joyful birth. This created a forum for personal exchange and a professional range of services relating to the desire to have children, pregnancy and birth.

Embarking on a new birth culture

Since 1991, International Midwives Day has been celebrated every year on May 5th in more than 50 countries to honor midwives and their work and to highlight their importance to society. This is a suitable occasion to celebrate the internet portal www.flowbirthing.de , which has been in existence for a year and was launched by the author Kristina Marita Rumpel and the Mankau Verlag as part of the publication of the book "FlowBirthing - Born from a Wave of Joy" . After it was awarded the Health Media Award for outstanding and sustainable communication in the field of women's health in 2015, its popularity among pregnant women and people who work in obstetrics is constantly growing.

The aim is to embark on a new birth culture in order to show ways in which women can experience the birth of their child as a joyful, wonderful event by confidently accepting the challenges: away from routine, birth medicine and technology towards trust in one's own strength and the rediscovery of ancient female wisdom that leads safely through pregnancy and birth.

300 FlowBirthing network partners are already involved

From the very beginning, the project, which is unique in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, found well-known supporters, such as Paul Lehrieder MdB, Chairman of the Committee for Family, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth in the German Bundestag, and the well-known author and alternative practitioner Angelika Gräfin Wolffskeel von Reichenberg. The FlowBirthing network includes professional providers (midwives, doulas, birth coaches, psychologists, nutritionists, yoga teachers, alternative practitioners, physiotherapists, HypnoBirthing course leaders, etc.) who are committed to helping pregnant women so that they can emerge from the birth experience stronger as women and mothers.

Around 300 FlowBirthing network partners from German-speaking countries are now listed and can be found by pregnant women in their home region with a click of the mouse using a search function. "Many providers have previously been lone fighters and are now finding strength and support in the community," emphasises Kristina Rumpel. Registration for the first 1,000 participants is free and can be done conveniently via the portal. This way, the new birth culture is reaching the mainstream of society and like-minded people can find each other more easily.

Professional offer and personal exchange

The portal informs pregnant women about pregnancy and birth, focusing on the natural, primal power of women. Beyond fear and belief in technology, femininity is shown as a gift and birth as a celebration of life. The variety of offers means that every pregnant woman can find the right support for her on her journey. First-time mothers, women who have experienced violence or women who have already had traumatic birth experiences in particular receive valuable information and access to empowering offers that help them to leave fears and insecurities behind and to look forward to the birth. The offer is rounded off by cooperation with network partners, such as the online congress Sex, Spirit & Birth, which sets strong accents for a new birth culture.

Almost 4,000 Facebook friends are now part of the FlowBirthing family, and the feedback is consistently positive. The regular FlowBirthing pregnancy tip is particularly popular. Comments from modern, self-confident women who want to reclaim birth as a self-determined event from the female source of power and experience it as a recognition of femininity, strengthen the author and publisher in their shared vision.
