Pillow talk for the soul: “Fill your subconscious with your wishes and plans – for healthy sleep at night and living your dreams during the day.” Interview with bestselling author Kristen Helmstetter

A dream life through five minutes of self-talk before falling asleep? Kristen Helmstetter , author of the book " Pillow Talk for the Soul ", reveals in an interview how your magical little break in the evening frees you from the stress of the day, brings your heart and mind back into harmony, helps you to have a restful sleep with pleasant dreams and gives you a better life in many ways!

More than 100,000 readers have read your book “Coffee Self-Talk,” which was also published in German in March 2022. What inspired you to write your new book “Pillow Self-Talk”?

Kristen Helmstetter: A fan of Coffee Self-Talk said she really enjoyed the morning coffee routine, but she wanted to know if I did anything special in the evenings. And I do! When I realized that more people wanted to know about this nightly ritual, I wrote the book Pillow Talk for the Soul to explain how to take a few minutes every night before you go to sleep to manifest the life of your dreams and find peace and relaxation as you drift off to sleep.

Both books focus on the life-changing importance of so-called “self-talk.” What does this mean, and what is the difference between morning and evening self-talk?

Kristen Helmstetter: Self-talk is the way you think and talk about yourself. It is the inner dialogue about yourself, your life, your views, attitudes and feelings. Do you think you are talented? Smart or not? Kind or not? Funny or
not? Nice or not? That's self-talk. Self-talk in the morning is good for motivation and a great start to the day. Self-talk before going to bed in the evening is good for deep relaxation and for manifesting dreams.

In “Pillow Talk for the Soul” there is often talk of a dreamlike or magical life that can be achieved as if in sleep. Why is sleep so important for changing your life and how can you restore the magic to your often monotonous everyday life?

Kristen Helmstetter: The thoughts that come into your head right before you fall asleep can have a profound effect on your life. This is the perfect time to fill the subconscious part of your brain with your desires, dreams and plans for your best life. You give your brain a focus as you snuggle up in the pillows.

One message of your book is that if you have positive self-talk, you program your mind to manifest your dreams and goals. Does this also apply the other way round: Do negative thoughts prevent you from being successful in life? And how is this different from mere daydreaming?

Kristen Helmstetter: Yes, negative self-talk can definitely lead to unhealthy life experiences. Your self-talk determines your focus, and that focus determines what you pay attention to every day—what you see and hear. When you engage in negative self-talk, you will notice more negative things in life and feel negative things. However, when you focus on positive and uplifting things and ideas, you boost your self-esteem and feel empowered no matter what.

The “bedtime talk” as an evening ritual not only ensures healthy sleep, but also new self-confidence, for example to become a novelist. When did you realize that your dream could become reality?

Kristen Helmstetter: My self-talk was a key part of my ability to become a writer. It boosted my confidence and helped me focus on my goal. It improved my creativity like nothing else, and it all started with changing the words and thoughts I had about myself and my abilities.

The positive affirmations and visualizations are intended to promote not only creativity but also resilience - the ability to deal with setbacks and difficult situations. What can you do to cope with the dark sides of life?

Kristen Helmstetter: When you change your self-talk to more positive and inspiring thoughts and words, you automatically start to think and say less negative things. That is the key to success... by changing the words to positive ones, you automatically use fewer negative words and beliefs. This trains your brain to see more and more rainbows instead of dark clouds. It helps you to see the silver lining in every problem, to solve challenges creatively and to feel strong, resilient and empowered, and again, it all starts very simply with the words and thoughts you think about yourself and your life. And I would like to add something important at this point: Even if you think that your current life is not (yet) magical, you should still use encouraging words, because you yourself are explaining to yourself and your subconscious how you want your life to be. And that is where the process of transformation begins. In “Pillow Talk for the Soul” I will teach you exactly how to write and proceed with the best affirmations and self-talk to transform yourself and live the life of your dreams.

Good advice for anyone who is concerned about their alcohol consumption: “Andreas Winter shows why much popular advice so often fails and, above all, which approaches make sense,” writes science journalist Udo Pollmer in his foreword to the book.

Andreas Winter is a qualified teacher and director of one of the largest coaching institutes in Germany. His guides deal with health and life topics from a depth psychological perspective and show the reader new, previously often overlooked aspects.

According to the depth psychologist, alcoholism is neither an illness nor an unalterable fate. Anyone who recognizes and resolves the true cause of their drinking can enjoy a good drink again at any time without succumbing to excess.

The successful coach always records his audio books himself, which is why the depth psychological analyses seem very authentic. His proven audio coaching makes it easier to put the knowledge gained into practice.
